About Our Retirement

Are you thinking of retiring in Puerto Escondido Oaxaca?    Architectural Digest

If you want to escape expensive health care and high cost of living, we think Mexico is great place to retire. So thats what we did.

Before we moved to Puerto Escondido we considered numerous other options for our retirement so visited places such as Florida, Arizona, South or North Carolina.

Born and raised in Georgia, I moved to New York City in the late sixties. My 2 sisters and I discovered Puerto Escondido by accident while traveling in Mexico in 1998. I fell in love instantly meeting wonderful people from all over the world. I went home to Southold, NY - near the Hamptons - and was able to persuade my husband Mack, then 82, to move to Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca Mexico. The expatriate community is vibrant and provides endless social activities. As you may deduce, I'm not much for sitting around to do nothing and have not retired or slowed down...yet.

Our youngest sons, Brett and William, were reluctant when we first told them of our plans. It took only one visit and they too have since fallen in love with our little piece of paradise on the Oaxacan coast.

I've heard people say that it is a lot like what Puerto Vallarta used to be 25 years ago. See what some of our past and current clients have to say about us.

One of the best things about Puerto Escondido is the fact that it has been relatively undiscovered. There are no Starbucks, McDonalds or anything near that type of commercialization. Recently, however, there have been quite a lot of News Articles written about Puerto Escondido. In 2007 CNN published an article about the hottest foreign second home markets which are developing expatriate communities. The New York Times reports that buying real estate in Mexico for the purposes of retiring in mexico makes a lot of sense because there is a steady supply of Baby Boomers that are now looking for alternative options that are affordable. Because Mexico has subsidized oil and gas prices it is less expensive to retire in Mexico on an affordable budget. New York Times Havens says it is a fishing village turned sufers hub ... a free-spirited community ... from retired Americans and Canadians to young European backpackers ... plenty to keep active types busy, from surfing and kayaking to horseback riding along the beach. Plentiful seafood is a gustatory perk. Cond Nast Concierge.com reports on the Pacific Ocean Coast in the Coast is Clear article about a journey along a seventy-mile stretch of Mexico's Pacific shore in which four towns include seemingly every stripe of simpatico beach getaway. Surfing, ecotourism, hippie chic, and luxe family resorts all coexist-and, blessedly, without any crowds. Discover the multifaceted appeal of Puerto Escondido and nearby unspoiled seaside spots.
